5 Yin Organs: (ZHANG) These are the solid organs. They produce and accumulate vital substances. They determine the functions of all other organs.
In TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) the emphasis is on function and energy (qi)rather than their anatomy. TCM looks at the energy of their functions as an interaction between them and not as an individual mechanism isolated from the whole. The 5 yin organs are: Lung, Kidney, Liver, Heart, Spleen. Each one has its pair with a yang organ. Yang organs are the hollow organs (FU) in TCM. Their functions are to transport and assimilate nutrients and eliminate waste substances. The hollow organs are 6: Large Intestine, Urinary Bladder, Gall Bladder, Small Intestine, Stomach, Triple Heater. (This organ does not exist in Western Medicine).
In the Qi gong of the 5 yin organs we will learn 5 basic exercises that help to circulate the qi energy within these organs and the body. Each lesson also shows the corresponding meridian of each instrument and includes visualization of the instrument as well as its meridians. The purpose of the exercises is to become more aware of the qi energy of our organs and to help improve their functions. Exercises can be a complementary method along with other methods such as diet, acupuncture and herbs. All exercises can also be done in a sitting position if the practitioner cannot stand. Lydia Tyllianaki was trained in this qi gong by Karel & Eva Koshkuba http://www.ciaa.org.uk/
